Generally, I got acquainted with cigarettes around 7th grade - my sister and I went to a construction site and learned to smoke "in a gasp". Naturally, our parents forbid us to smoke, so we should always look for ways to hide cigarettes and eliminate the constant smell of smoke.

Then came the company where everyone also smoked. There is a kind of fashion, they say, if you do not smoke, then do not cool. Everything is different now, but before different times. So, surrounded by smokers, my habit is growing. I smoke as much as I can, and the possibility of being burned by an adult only drives the process.

But at the age of 16, I had one click in my head, and I decided to quit smoking. Just like that, all of a sudden, by will. Honestly, there are positive moments from this, though not for long. After a few weeks, I changed my mind, saying that I could smoke while drinking. That is, when I realized, I did not smoke, but at parties I could smoke. And as you may have guessed, I did not stop there. Although there are positive effects - for 4 years I smoked a little.

But there are also major drawbacks to this method. Because there is a strong link between smoking and alcohol in my brain, I am attracted to drinking it whenever I want to smoke.

But I also did not stop there. In my third year of studying at university, I got a job in a taxi and there I lit a full cigarette. I smoke almost a pack a day, and when I drink more. And this continues until the fall of 2017. Roughly speaking, my experience as a smoker is around 10 years.

How Do I Quit Smoking Alone

Friends, in this chapter I will tell you how I went through the process of quitting smoking, and then - how to do it. So if you are too lazy to read, you can continue reading the next chapter. Quite a lot of people ask me how I manage it, but it is uncomfortable to be clever, because the method is quite simple.

So, in October 2017, I woke up in the morning after a busy party and felt bad. I did not get enough sleep, I had severe headaches due to the alcohol I drank the day before, the vestibular apparatus was not functioning properly. I smoked a cigarette and got into the car. The car was crowded and smelled of unpleasant herringbone. Also, I started to feel sick. In general, various negative feelings.

At that moment I began to feel nauseous and the taste of a newly smoked cigarette entered my mouth. I looked out the window: the beautiful autumn weather outside, the sun shining brightly, and the leaves falling from the trees. And then very pleasant memories from my childhood, related to this weather and similar scenery, flooded me. To me there is a pleasant connection to the situation outside the window with childhood when I felt great, and not like now in the car. What do I do next?

3 My Immediate Steps

  1. I just linked strong suffering and negative at the moment with a smoking cigarette. And I feel with my whole body that I feel very bad right now. It is not difficult to do this, as there is an unpleasant taste of tobacco in the mouth. Plus adds shortness of breath and cash costs.
  2. Next, I look out the window again and fully connect the pleasant feeling with quitting smoking. Again, it is not difficult to do this, because in such a situation since childhood I have not smoked and I feel great. Also, I added the pleasant feeling that without a cigarette I was able to climb the stairs safely and without choking. I also add the advantage of money: if I do not buy cigarettes, I can buy useful items myself.
  3. At the peak of my emotional state, I made a clear and conscious decision to quit smoking forever.

All this takes about 10 seconds. The emotional change was so strong that I immediately threw the package into the trash.

But this step will not be enough in the long run, so I had to implement a few more steps, which also worked. You will read about them a little below.

Now for the fun part. I can't smoke accidentally. I did not prepare for this decision, did not go to the doctor, did not buy chewing gum for smoking, plasters, sprays and other nonsense. A few months later, I started reading Tony Robbins' book on self-improvement and discovered these methods I was unaware of!

6 steps to get rid of addiction

These principles are built on neuro-Associative conditioning. Here they are:

  1. Make clear and precise decisions about why you want to quit smoking. You want this, not your loved ones.
  2. Use Leverage: Connect strong emotional excitement with quitting smoking now, and intense suffering if you don’t do it now. Do something as I did, or think of other ways to do it. Most importantly, you need to feel strong emotions and associate them with smoking.
  3. We need to break old behaviors. For example, I used to go to the smoking room at work and discuss business with colleagues, inhaling smoke. After quitting smoking, I started communicating with them in a "non-smoking" place.
  4. Create a new alternative. But this step, buddy, is the most important thing if you focus on the long term. The fact is that quitting smoking is not enough. You need to replace the pleasure that cigarettes give you with something else. Something that will not affect you. For example, instead of smoking with friends, I watch interesting TV series or have tea. You need to find an alternative to smoking by looking at the reasons you smoke. Let’s say you take out a cigarette when you start to worry. Exercising or achieving short-term goals helps a lot from this feeling.
  5. You need to make the installation "forever" instead of "at least a week". And repeat the steps above until it becomes a habit. It took me about 3 weeks to do this.
  6. Appears with reward system. This is a very important step. You should know that if you do not smoke today, you can afford to buy some nice little things yourself; if a week, then the matter is greater; if a month, then a holiday abroad. I did that - I kept encouraging it until the habit disappeared completely.

Friends, the problem with smoking is mainly psychological addiction, not physical problems. There are many ways to quit smoking. Replace regular cigarettes with electronic ones, paste paste, chew gum. If you open a search engine and ask how you can quit smoking yourself, you will see many ridiculous drugs, services and ways.

Name me at least one person who wears a plaster and gets rid of addiction. For example, I do not know such people. The fact is that all of these drugs only partially reduce physical dependence. And he, believe me, is not yet strong. But this is a profitable business, because people buy. They buy and expect miracle methods to suit their needs. This will not happen.
